A Family of Crime Fighters

Crime Fighting Cousins Abby & Oliver

As some of you know my sister Heather and I were pregnant at the same time. She had my cute little niece Abby 9 days before Oliver. Although my sister lives in South Carolina it has been nice to be able to compare notes through out the pregnancy and now after they were born. Oliver and I plan on going to visit Abby and Heather in August. Can't wait for the cousins to meet for the first time.

The Great Outdoors

View from the end of our driveway.

Gunner's enjoying the nice weather in the backyard.

Oliver's checking out the activity mat.

The tulips are in full bloom!

Can you see the little head that's on Eriks' Chest? Nap time!

Well it is finally feels a little like spring around here. Our crabapple trees are in full bloom along with all the tulips I planted in the fall. I was hoping that a few would have popped up around the time Oliver was born but mother nature had other plans. Never the less they are beautiful. Erik and I have been working on the yard between Oliver's nap times. Our vegetable garden has yet to be planted which is probably a good thing since there is a frost advisory out for tonight. Hopefully tomorrow I can sneak away and put the plants in the ground.
Last year Erik and I put a small pond surrounded by a flower bed in the backyard and it's been exciting to see all the flowers start to fill out and bloom this year. We bought some Koi and put them in the pond last year and then over the winter I kept them at school for the kids to enjoy. Soon it will be time to relocate them to their summer home. Erik and I envision Oliver enjoying feeding them someday.
Oliver is now down to one feeding a night! I can't wait until he sleeps through the night but one feeding feels like heaven. He is also starting to become more predictable and I can distinguish the difference in his cries. He loves to take naps while laying on our chests. As you can see the the picture Erik enjoys taking naps with Oliver when he gets home from work. Oliver is started to become really interested his activity center and love to look outside which makes me happy. I hope he ends up loving the outdoors as much as Erik and I do.

Super Oliver

"Is someone in danger?"

Well Oliver had his one month check up this week and here are his stats. He now weighs 11 pounds 5 ounces and is 22 and half inches long. That's a gain of 3 and half pounds a growth spurt of about 2 inches! He is at the top of the charts for his height and weight. I joke with Erik that his son has the Wollerman genes and be taller then his Dad! As you can see in the picture Oliver is starting to develop the cute chunky baby legs. He's one roll in and starting to add roll number two to his thigh.
Oliver is also starting to make a variety of noises which are really funny to listen to. Sometimes Erik and I think we have a farm animal in our house. There is the baaaa of a sheep, neigh of a goat, and the oink of a pig. He definitely has farming in his genes.

Date Night!

Erik and I love to watch the Discovery Channel. One of our favorite shows is Deadliest Catch and while watching the show a few weeks ago a commercial advertised that Captain Sig and the Hilstrand brothers were coming to the Fox Valley Performing Arts Center. We figured this would be a perfect date night for us and we ordered tickets. So last night we dropped Oliver off at Grandpa and Grandma Salm's and went to the show. It was really a nice get away and we enjoyed the show. When we returned to pick up Oliver around 9, he was sleeping and happy. By the time we got home he was hungry and the angry baby came out. When we finally settled him down around 11 and put him to bed. All was well until the next feeding at 2:30 when angry baby returned. I could hear him starting to get fussy so I picked him up and headed downstairs to feed him. He was happily eating and started to nod off. I thought great, he should  make it until 6 until he needs to get fed so I'll get a solid 3 hours of sleep. The boss man had other plans. I would rock him until his eyes were closed for a few minutes and then I would get up and lay him down ever so gently and then BAM! His eyes were WIDE open  and the process would start all over again. By the time 4:30 rolled around I was at my wits end and woke Erik up hoping that he could do the trick and get Oliver to sleep. That didn't work either. By the time 5 o'clock came around Oliver must have decided that he had torchered us enough and he nodded off. I'm sure this won't be the first or last time this will happen but I was happy that:
1. We had a nice get away.
2. He was good for Grandpa and Grandma so they will hopefully watch him again.
3 I didn't have a couple of glasses of wine at the show or I would have really been dragging butt today.

Cruising Towards One Month!

Wow has time flown. Oliver is coming up on one month. It is amazing how much he has grown. He has officially surpassed the newborn clothing and now fits in the 0 to 3 month clothes. It got to the point were his little legs wouldn't fit in the outfits because they were to long! When I dress him in the 0-3 month clothes his torso, arms, and legs fit nicely but he doesn't quite fill out the middle of the clothes yet. Erik and I were wondering what his weight was so I dug up an old scale in the basement and we propped him up on the scale and weighed him. He looks like a little doll on that scale but he is up to 10 pounds now! His one month appointment is coming up on Monday so we'll see what the official weight is soon.

Top 5 Things I Have Learned In 3 Weeks

It's been 3 weeks and a day since the little man came into this world and boy have I learned a lot. Here are the top five things that I have learned in the past 3 weeks.

5. Burp, Burp, Burp, and Burp some more. I have come to realize that no matter how tired I am I MUST make him burp even if I don't think he has to otherwise I will wear rocketed curdled milk all over my clothes.

4. A squeak, Squawk, whine, or toot are false alarms. Leave the sleeping bear alone.

3. Always cover the family jewels when diaper changing. Oliver has marked Erik and I as his territory multiple times :)

2. When you hear tooting  WAIT to check the diaper until things have "settled" down. Need I say more.

1. Point the family jewels down. Erik and I couldn't for the life of us figure out how Oliver was peeing through his diaper and  all over his side and stomach. We kept tightening the diapers and trying different diapers but Oliver would still get wet. Then our friend Curt came over while I was changing a diaper and I was complaining about constantly changing Oliver's clothes because of this problem. He looks at Erik and I and simply states " Point the wiener down". Well, we took his advice and there hasn't been a problem since!

Oliver's Photo Shoot Pictures

As I said earlier, we had a photographer come out to the house and  take some pictures of the little man. This was my shower gift from my colleagues at Winneconne and what a great gift it was. The photographer gave us the rights to the pictures so I thought I would put them on here for all of you to see.

Happy Baby & Angry Baby

This weekend Erik and I decided that we were going to escape from the house and venture out with Oliver for the first time. We bundled up Oliver in the early morning and headed to New London to see the Sturgeon spawning on the river. It was great. Oliver was content and slept most of the time. When he would get fussy Erik would hit a couple of bumps in the road and Oliver would be fast asleep in no time.
Since this trip was such a success we decided to head on over to Menards in the afternoon and pick up a couple of thing for the yard, garden, and house. Again, it was a successful trip.Oliver slept and we got the things we needed. Well, we thought that since Oliver has been crabby every night between 6 and 11 we would take a car ride to Dairy Queen around 8 o'clock that night and hopefully Oliver would fall asleep and we could avoid the angry baby time. Well wouldn't you know it worked! Erik and I got home from Dairy Queen and we left Oliver sleeping  in his car seat and watched a movie together with no angry baby. We were marveling in the peace and quite and proud of ourselves for finally figuring out the little man, or so we thought.
When eleven o'clock (feeding time) came around we woke Oliver up and fed him. Then the peaceful, calm, cute baby turned into the WIDE awake, gassy, poopy diapered, ANGRY baby. Boy was it a long night. In the morning Erik and I looked like two walking zombies loading up on some caffeine to try and get our bodies functioning for the morning routine. We sure learned our lesson. Wake the baby up and let him have angry baby time so we can have some happy sleeping time!

This is a picture of the beginning phase of the angry baby. Notice Oliver's long nosed brother, Gunner in the background. Then if you look at the picture above Gunner is no where to be found. Gee, I wonder why?
